Katarina Wit started skating when she was five years old. As her natural talent began to show, she received an entry to a Karl-Marx-Stadt school that is geared towards children who have a sporty ability. She met Jutta Muller in this school. Witt was second place at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. From that moment on the elegance and grace of her skating attracted the attention of everyone. Her dominance began in this sport. Olympic triumphs at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games, Katarina Witt came through a closely race to claim the women's figure skating gold medal. The winner of the competition was a more competitive contest four years later. While she was unable to win the competition for free skating, the gold medal was awarded to her performance on the compulsory figures, as well as on the program in short form. Witt became the women's first repeatedly crowned winner of figure skating following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt, who had achieved success in film as an actor, returned to figure skating to compete in the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. In spite of not receiving the gold medal, she won over the audience. Witt received her induction to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, 1995.
